Trees and Hurricanes program
Miami-Dade County Extension will be presenting a workshop entitled "Trees and Hurricanes" on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. The subjects covered will be pruning principles, hurricanes season outlook, how to avoid accidents, and outside demonstrations. CEU's will be given. Registrations is $15 to cover lunch, refreshments, and handouts. Call Patty at (305) 248-3311 x 225 to reserve your place at the workshop by Monday, June 30, 2008..

Crop Disaster Program
2005-2007
A new crop disaster program was announced on
Oct 15, 2007, called Crop Disaster Program 2005-2007. This program is for those growers who had signed up for NAP coverage during 2005, '06, or '07, and suffered a crop loss in one of those years due to a natural disaster. This program is seperate from the Non-Insured Crop Assistance Program, or the NAP program. You can contact the Farm Service Agency at (305) 242-1197 X 2, or visit this link (CLICK HERE) for more information.

Publication of Florida tropical fruit nutritional analysis
in USDA newlsletter
In early 2007, the Agricultural Research Service at the USDA Citrus and Subtropical fruit crops laboratory in Winter Haven, FL conducted a study of the antioxidant properties of Florida tropical fruits. They discovered that several Florida tropical fruits are quite high in these cancer fighting properties. Their research was featured in the USDA newsletter, which you can read at this link:
