The Tropical Fruit Growers
of South Florida, Inc., TFGSF, is a grower’s organization
based in Homestead, FL that works to help commercial farmers, and
tropical fruit enthusiasts grow and market Florida tropical fruit.
TFGSF is dedicated to helping growers to become better in the cultivation
of their tropical fruits through education and research, and in assisting
growers in the marketing of Florida tropical fruits through promotional
initiatives.
We invite you to join our efforts!
• TFGSF works with the US Department of Agriculture,
Florida Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Miami-Dade County
Cooperative Extension agency, UF/Tropical Research and Education Center,
and others, in assisting with research projects involving tropical
fruit such as fertilization requirements, pruning techniques, irrigation
strategies, pest management, etc.
• TFGSF helps these agencies to present the
results of these research projects to the agricultural community through
the sponsorship of public seminars, and workshops.
• TFGSF regularly meets with law enforcement
representatives to keep current on county, state, and federal regulations
that affect the Florida tropical fruit industry, and relays that information
onto our members.
• TFGSF monitors legislative issues and policies
involving Florida’s tropical fruit industry, and provides input
to these representatives to educate them regarding our concerns.
• TFGSF attends trade shows such as Florida
Restaurant Association and Produce Managers Association to showcase
Florida tropical fruits, and offering samples, and providing educational
materials.
• TFGSF maintains a website that provides
an Internet site for members to sell their tropical fruit crops, and
for the public to access information on Florida’s commercial
tropical fruit industry, as well as other individual tropical fruits.
• TFGSF works with chefs and marketing groups
to promote Florida tropical fruit through many types of media, such
as, videos, TV segments, brochures, magazine and newspaper articles,
etc.
• TFGSF Board of directors meets monthly,
and all members are welcome to attend these meetings. General membership
meetings are scheduled as needed throughout the year.
